Ahimsabadi Maha Boudha Anath School, Daunne

Established in 1997, Ahimsabadi Maha Boudha Anath Secondary School in Daunne Hill, Dumkibas VDC, Nawalparasi District is a school managed by the Buddhist nuns from the monastery of Rinpoche Maha Sanghanayak Vikku Karma Gyan Sagar Lama. At the monastery, they also run an orphanage that houses 90 children. The school itself teaches 140 students from ECD to grade 8, according to the government prescribed curriculum. An additional subject on Buddhism across the years allows for a much-needed holistic and grounding spiritual guidance for the children, who come from difficult circumstances. The children are encouraged to be more self-reliant as they grow older and are sent to a nearby school for grade 9 and 10, after which they are placed on different programs and colleges based on their interests and passions.

Shikshya Foundation Nepal initially supported the orphanage with solar lights and electricity so the students could study during the night and use their computers. SFN has also been steadily supporting the educational needs and private teachers’ salaries to create a more abundant learning environment at the school. We intend on further helping rebuild classrooms, library and other facilities. A separate hostel to accommodate girls and increasing the capacity of the preexisting orphanage are also on the pipeline.
