Community Eye Center

Charikot, Dolakha; Chautara, Sindhupalchowk

After the completion of the two Community Eye Centers in Charikot, Dolakha and Chautara, Sindhupalchok; over 29000 people benefited by 2017.

A total of 277 people had their sight restored and 3526 people had their sight improved through the use of spectacles and over 11600 students availed of eye check up services at their schools.

Shikshya Foundation Nepal had partnered with Magsaysay Award winner, Dr. Sanduk Ruit’s Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology’s Nepal Eye Program to build these Community Eye Centers (CEC) that were damaged in the earthquake.

The CECs cover over 2.6 millions people in rural districts in the country. The objective of CECs is to provide comprehensive quality eye care services at subsidized or no costs through outreach programs to reduce avoidable blindness and visual impairment in rural communities.
