Rebuilding Lives, Building Futures

As part of our post earthquake rebuilding efforts, we have set up Shikshya Foundation Nepal Scholarship Program to provide deserving students, mostly girls, an opportunity to pursue further education after grade 10.

Till date 50 students from Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Lalitpur, Kavre & Okhaldhunga are enrolled in the scholarship program. The program provides full tuition fees, cost for uniform, books and stationery. It is also mandatory that every student must meet the Executive Board and undergo a screening process.

A boy from the Dolakha, who had passed SLC, happened to meet a student who had received our scholarship. He had come to Kathmandu just 4 days before to work as a labour, to carry loads around Balkhu in Kathmandu. When he learnt about the scholarship program, he came to meet us and asked if we could help him too. He said,”I really, really want to study”.

We could not say no!

Now he is enrolled in a technical Institute in Charikot on his way to become a Junior Technical Assistant(JTA).

Inspired by his real life incident, we are encouraged to further develop our scholarship program so that a student from the remotest part of the country can aspire to study knowing that Shikshya Foundation Nepal will help fulfill her dreams.

‘Underprivileged’ is such a relative term. A country as diverse as ours – how do we measure who is the most ‘needy’? We started SFN with the main objective of supporting the education of girl child.
